Relaxation

I have talked about stress being a major problem in modern life and having many negative effects on our health, so one of the best things you can do to reduce potential health problems and to live a healthier life is to simply give yourself a break sometimes! Modern life can be tough with all the pressures, expectations, responsibilities and stresses so you need to make sure that things don’t get on top of you and you allow yourself time to relax and time for yourself.

It can be easy to be hard on yourself, be self-critical, feel guilty about things, worry about stuff and get bogged down by life’s pressure. Also it can be easy to always put other people before yourself like your children, or partner, or friends or family. There is nothing wrong with caring for others and helping people, in fact it is a very good thing, but you must allow time for yourself too and look after number one and that means you.

So make an effort to relax, take some time out, do some things just for yourself, treat yourself occasionally, don’t be so hard on yourself or so self-critical. Nobody is perfect, nobody is super-human, you can’t do everything and rest and relaxation can be very productive.

So make sure you give yourself a break. Take some time out, learn to say no, remember that getting too stressed is not good, relaxing is beneficial, be nice to yourself, give yourself some space and some time just for you.

Learn to get things into perspective too. All too often we worry about things that are not that important. So step back, take a deep breath, reflect on the situation, see the bigger picture and usually things won’t feel quite so tough or difficult to manage.
